A wrongful death suit arising from an accident in Germany was filed in federal court in Chicago. The defendant driver and the decedent were both U.S. Citizens stationed in Germany. Ed Siegert was successful in obtaining a dismissal of the case in Illinois based upon the doctrine of forum non conveniens, arguing that the suit should have been brought in Germany. German law allowed only the recovery of funeral expenses under the facts of this case, and plaintiff elected not to proceed in the German courts after the case was dismissed in Illinois. (
