Summary Judgment Obtained For Manufacturer In Defamation Case

John Lynch represented a defendant-manufacturer of seats and seating components, which the plaintiff-supplier sued after the defendant terminated their business relationship. The termination letter stated, "We need to partner with supplier who not only stands behind their product(s), but values our business and relationship as well." Summary judgment was awarded to the defendant after the court determined that the statement was privileged and capable of an incident construction and, therefore, was not defamatory. Midwest v. Irwin.
